oUR sTORY
Brigitte Boivin was born and raised in Mashteuiatsh, QC. She was one of twenty four children from her family taken to the Residential school. She was thirteen upon arrival, and after some difficult years, she was finally able to return home to her family at the age of sixteen. There she cared for some of her younger siblings and went on to meet her future husband Richard Poirier. The two had 3 children together; Nancy, Jean-Marc, and myself, before first moving to Nakina, ON. Then not long afterwards; Longlac, ON where they were able to provide a bilingual education, and chance at a brighter future. At the age of 49 Richard passed away leaving Brigitte a widow; though thankfully all her children were capable of supporting themselves at this point, and so she returned to her home reserve of Mashteuiatsh, QC where she connected with her childhood sweetheart, Camil Dushesne. Even through hard times and sickness; Brigitte was always full of life and loved living every day. She loved being outdoors; to snowshoe, hunt, fish, cross country ski, but most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family.
In 2012, she fought a final battle and passed away peacefully in the hospital. I felt the need to do something in her honour, since she was a loving mother who showed me how to be strong, independent, and to chase my dreams, no matter how big! Camp Brigitte was opened on January 01 of 2015 and is located only 13 kms north of Dryden, ON.
During the spring, summer, and fall the camp is available to rent on Airbnb; during late fall to December 15th, the camp is home to deer hunting. The winter months we remove the beds and transition our cabin into a cozy chalet for those who wish to enjoy winter activities such as; tubing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or just sitting around the bonfire with friends and family. We have plans, and have begun to clear a trail out to Zealand Lake so our guests may have private access for fishing. Camp Brigitte is a little Oasis located in our beautiful land in Northwestern Ontario! Book your outdoor escape now!
